Find Windows XP Product Key From Your Installation CD [How To]

Have you lost your Windows CD Key and are desperately looking for it? No backups, nothing. What do you do now? Well till you have your Original installation you can easily find the Product key without breaking a sweat.
Here are the simple steps you need to perform in order to get your Product Key from the installation CD.
(Note: This may only work for certain OEM CDs.)

1. Insert the Installation CD into your CD / Drive Drive.
2. Explore the CD and navigate to the i386 folder.
3. Open the file UNATTEND.txt and scroll down to the last line.
4. You will find your Windows XP Product key there.

We were able to find the CD key on a Windows XP Corporate Edition installation CD and would love to know if you were able to find it on your own installation CDs. Do let us know through your comments on how it went for you.

How to Map Network Drive in Windows 7?

 
You can map network drive in the following way:

1) Open Windows Explorer by double clicking on the Computer icon on the Desktop.

2) Click on Tools menu and select Map Network Drive… option as shown above

3) In the Map Network Drive window select the drive letter from the dropdown list adjacent to Drive as shown below. Utk kes Natural Places, pilih drive Z.

4) Now either type the name of the location of the folder to be mapped or click on Browse button and select the folder to be mapped as highlighted above


5) In the Browse for Folder dialog box navigate to the folder to be mapped and press OK

Error 2738 could not access VBScript run time for custom action

I've encountered this error during installation of Vodafone Huawei K3565-Z Celcom broadband modem . The laptop is using Windows 7 Starter edition. The solution for this error is:

1. Run Command Prompt as administrator

1.1 Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories

1.2 Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator

2. If you are using 32-bit version of Windows:

Type cd %windir%\system32 into the Command Prompt and hit Enter

If you are using 64-bit version of Windows:

Type cd %windir%\syswow64 into the Command Prompt and hit Enter

3. Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll into the Command Prompt and hit Enter

Unfortunately for my case this solution did not work at all. But after some googling I found out that some people use McAfee Removal Tool to solve this problem and guess what, it WORKS!!!

No doubt that the easiest way to identify your Motherboard model is by reading the information printed on the retail box or the User Manual (aka “motherboard book”). However if you can’t get hold of those information, one can take the “brute force” way by opening up your CPU to find the name or an abbreviation thereof silk-screened on the motherboard/on the side of the last expansion board slot to the left of the motherboard.

Anyway, if you don’t intend to open your CPU, there is a much simpler way to identify your Motherboard model.

From the terminal type this command:

sudo dmidecode | more

Dmidecode reports information about your system’s hardware as described in your system BIOS according to the SMBIOS/DMI standard. The typical information includes system manufacturer, model name, serial number, BIOS version, asset tag as well as a lot of other details of varying level of interest and reliability depending on the manufacturer. This will often include usage status for the CPU sockets, expansion slots (e.g. AGP, PCI, ISA) and memory module slots, and the list of I/O ports (e.g. serial, parallel, USB).

Note to myself: Use this method to check customers' PC @ Laptop to check the hardware using Ubuntu Live-CD (Work smart)
